iPad 2 Update for WEMTA

Hi, all.

Thank you for registering for the iPad in Education workshop at the WEMTA conference. We have some good news - and some bad news about the workshop. The good news is that we were able to order you the new iPad 2 - it's thinner, faster, and comes with exciting new tools for students and teachers to create and share multimedia content - including two cameras! Unfortunately, Apple has not been able to fulfill this order in time for the conference.

We were able to order only 1 day before the public release date (we ordered March 10th - no earlier orders were allowed by Apple), and at that point Apple's projected delivery delay was 2 to 3 weeks. After careful consideration, WEMTA leadership decided to order to order you iPad 2s anyway. The alternatives were to order iPad 1s (which we presumed would have been unacceptable since you could've bought the new ones for the same price by this time), or to cancel the workshop (which would've been unacceptable for those who's schools or districts were paying for the workshop, and thus the iPad). We also considered rescheduling the workshop for a later date, but knew that a new date would work for very few of you - and that ordering the iPads now was the fastest way to get them into your hands.

At this point Apple has increased their projected delivery delay to 5-6 weeks and now projects a delivery date of April 1st for our order.

So, the workshops at WEMTA will proceed as planned, but will include demonstrations and discussions only - the sessions will not be hands-on with iPads.

After April 1st, iPads will be available for pickup from WEMTA in Hartland, WI. Alternatively, WEMTA will ship the iPads to you individually (at no extra cost). Please fill out the following form to let us know how you'd like to be united with your iPad - by picking it up or by delivering it to an address that you specify: http://goo.gl/lPjV5

We all apologize for this disappointing news. We know you must be so excited about receiving your new iPads - especially now that they will be iPad 2s. And we know this must be disappointing, especially at the last minute. We are sorry for the delay. We know you'll enjoy your new iPads in April, and we know you'll learn amazing new ways to use iPads for teaching and learning when you attend the workshops this week at WEMTA.
